Conversations with head honchos of Rivalry and SIGA

Steven Salz offered his thoughts on the proposed changes to sports betting advertising standards by the AGCO. And Zane Hansen talked about a record-setting fiscal year and what's next.

While the sports betting and igaming industry in Ontario continues to wait for word from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario on expected revisions to advertising standards, Rivalry co-founder and CEO Steven Salz provided some details on the Toronto company's submission of feedback to the AGCO's original proposal back in April and his concerns about it. Salz also discussed a busy time of year for Rivalry with a robust esports calendar, and what's on tap for the fall.

Zane Hansen, the president and CEO of the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA), explained the reasons for the authority's record-setting fiscal year in 2022-23 in coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic and launching its online gaming product (PlayNow.com) in collaboration with the British Columbia Lottery Corportation. Hansen also weighed in on Bill S-268, brought forward in the Senate last month by Senator Scott Tannas to amend the Criminal Code of Canada "to provide that the governing body of a First Nation has exclusive authority to conduct and manage a lottery scheme on its reserve and to license the conduct and management of a lottery scheme by other persons and entities on its reserve", and on possible expansion of regulated sports betting and igaming in Canada beyond Ontario in the future.
