Three years in, Ontario’s online gambling industry has exceed $7 billion in total gross revenue
iGaming Ontario released Thursday its peformance marketing report for Year 3. Revenue has grown 129% since the sector launched in April 2022.
In just three years, Ontario’s online gambling industry has produced gross revenue of $7.064 billion, total tax revenue of more than $1.4 billion and has grown revenue by 129% from year one through year three.
That’s just some of the conclusions from figures released Thursday by iGaming Ontario (iGO). The numbers complete the third fiscal year since the sector launched in April of 2022.
The three-year revenue breakdown is as follows:
Online casinos — $5.15 billion
Sports betting — $1.75 billion
Poker — $172.4 million
In fiscal year three (April 2024 through March 2025), the sector produced gross revenue of $3.21 billion, up 33.8% from year two ($2.4 billion) and up 129% from year one ($1.4 billion).
The breakdown by product in FY3 was:
Online casinos – revenue of $2.42 billion (up 36% from FY2 - $1.78 billion and up 157% from FY1 - $940 million).
Sports betting – revenue of $724 million (up 23% from FY2 - $590 million and up 67% from FY1 - $433 million).
Poker – revenue of $66.1 (even with FY2 - $66.1 million and up 64.4% from FY1 - $40.2 million).
Since launch, online casinos have commanded 73% of the total gross gaming revenue, followed by sports betting (25%) and poker (2%).
The online gambling sector is taxed at 20% in Ontario. That means taxes have grown 71.4% from $280 million in FY1 to $480 million in FY2, and a further 33.75% from FY2 to $642 million in FY3. Taxes have grown 129% from FY1 to FY3.
It’s important to note that these numbers do not include the revenue from online platforms of the province’s legacy brand operated by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG). Figures from previous years show the OLG commands around 20% of the market, meaning total Ontario online gambling revenue is much higher than the iGO figures report, especially since all of the proceeds from OLG operations go back to the province.
March 2025 figures alone show an increase in revenue of 5% from $280.1 million in February to $294.8 million in March. By product, online casinos were up 12.4% from $213.8 million to $240.3 million, sports betting was down 22% from $61.5 million to $47.9 million and poker was up 37.5% from $4.8 million to $6.6 million.
Since launch, the number of active player accounts has grown 283% from 277,000 to 1.061 million. The average revenue per active player account has grown 76% from launch ($158) through the end of FY3 ($278).
Also, the latest IPSOS study commissioned by iGO and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission (and noted in a LinkedIn post by the Canadian Gaming Association) reports that almost 84% of Ontarians are placing a wager of playing an online casino game on regulated websites. That’s up from 70% at market launch in April 2022.
Ontario is currently home to 49 operators (50 when you include OLG) offering more than 80 separate online gambling platforms.

After challenging months, is Rivalry now heading in the right direction?
Toronto-based online operator Rivalry says significant changes to its business operations are showing some positive signs despite net revenue being down significantly. That’s the word from a Canadian Gaming Business story by Tom Nightingale released last week before the holiday weekend.
Rivalry’s net revenue was down 71% year-over-year to $1.3 million in the quarter that ended March 31.
The operator said it has shifted to focus more on high-value and VIP players and streamlined operations.
Nightingale wrote that Rivalry has seen an increase in player value.
“Monthly active players grew by 9% in March 2025, following a similar increase in February 2025,” he write. “Since the operational shift, Rivalry’s average revenue per playing account in the Ontario market has nearly doubled compared to pre-overhaul levels.”
The operator has rebuilt its sportsbook, redesigned its casino offerings, expanded its crypto capabilities and rebranded its VIP rewards. It has also had three rounds of layoffs, as well as pay cuts at the executive level.
“We’ve built a stronger, leaner, and more focused Rivalry,” said co-founder and CEO Steven Salz. “Our Q1 KPIs are delivering tangible results that validate our strategic shift.
“The KPIs are telling the real story — user value is up, efficiency is up, and player engagement is the strongest we’ve seen in the company’s history … As sportsbook hold normalizes and our cost base becomes leaner, we believe we’re moving in the right direction.”
