As first reported in the latest newsletter by Gaming News Canada, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission began last week meeting with sports betting operators and other stakeholders in the province’s regulated gambling industry about its proposal to ban athletes and celebrities from advertising for the protection of minors. Paul Burns, the president and chief executive officer of the Canadian Gaming Association, returned to the GNC Show podcast presented by Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP to answer questions about the CGA’s get-together with AGCO deputy COO Brent McCurdy and other commission members. Parleh Media Group CEO Mark Silver, GNCS regular contributor Amanda Brewer and Phill Gray joined the conversation to provide their thoughts on a renewed spirit of collaboration by the AGCO to find common ground with the industry on advertising and marketing standards.

Eric Herd, the founder/CEO of A2Z Ventures, and Silver weighed in on the acquisition of Canadian digital sports media company Playmaker Capital by global digital sports media business Better Collective and the opportunities for BC via Playmaker’s operations in Latin America and Canada.

Brewer and the show’s host, Steve McAllister, teed up their third straight appearance at this week’s Prime Time Sports Management Conference & Trade Show, where they will be joined by BetMGM’s Scott Woodgate and Nic Sulsky of PointsBet Canada for a panel on the state of the Canadian gambling industry.

Finally, Gray – the recently departed head trader for Sports Interaction – gave his perspective on the sports betting action during the first half of the NFL regular season, including the Taylor Swift bump.
